You’ve seen the ocean.
Loud, lapping waves.
Each one rolls up
And again comes down.
This is how I see my life.
Each wave tries to pass
That mark in the sand
Left by the previous.
Wave.

I pretend.
I pretend not to pretend.
But in the end
It’s always a guise.
Pretend confidence
Pretend wildness
Pretend thoughtfulness
Pretend maturity.
Maybe it’s not all pretend.
But I’ll pretend it is.
For the sake of argument.
