Oh here is a tale to tell
Although not ending sweet and well
A powerful tale of the sea and deep
A story to treasure and always keep
So sit up straight and listen hard
To the story of a true love scarred

A maiden and lad, newly wed
Set sail in sweet celebration of a new-shared bed
No one knew the end was near
Family assured not to fear
The happy couple then sailed away
A journey to ocean; they became his prey

Poseidon spied as his love lost purity
His jealousy no longer in obscurity
Poseidon, aware his love for her, was more than any lad
He watched as the couple shared, what Poseidon wished he had
His anger rose above all other
Couldn’t shake his mind with ‘nother

He shook the sea like a giant whale, and offered choice alone
She leave with him and take the throne
If not with her love she’d die
“Go…” her love said as a supportive lie
With no look back, and no tear shed
She took his hand as her old love bled

He stared at her in horror, Poseidon with a smirk
Her thoughts of the slain love she shirked
Poseidon won his game
The prize a beauty for him to claim
The maiden, newly queen
Smiled heartlessly to the scene

A rising fame soon faded to dust
As the mortal girl lost her lust
To hell she fell in despair
She dropped right into Hades’ lair
To reunite with her old true love
To whom she was wed in the world above

Blocked out the past, he tried to embrace
She smiled and twirled with all her old grace
Together again, he thought blissfully
But when Hades came by he sighed wistfully
Again he was left by his one love
For a wealthy god, she flew away like a dove

No anger but tears ran through his soul
As he watched Hades and the woman he stole
After all his torture, his heart still pure
He finally realized the pain of his siren’s lure
And spent his days in sorrow
Under the rule of his love ‘morrow after morrow

So there is the tale, sad and true
Of a love lost in a great taboo
But do not mourn for the cuss
For he was rewarded and the lady thus
Was punished for her heart of stone
Her demise brought again by the throne
I wrote this inspired by the movie Poseidon...Although it has nothing to do with the movie..

:) Hope someone likes it, this is the hardest I have EVER worked on a poem, and the longest I have worked on one. It means a lot to me.
